MOSCOW -- Russia says an Israeli miltary attache to Moscow who was expelled from the country was carrying secret information when he was detained.

A Foreign Ministry statement issued Thursday says Vadim Leiderman was apprehended on May 12, declared persona non grata and given 48 hours to leave the country.

Israeli media reported earlier this week about Leiderman's expulsion, with Channel 2 TV reporting he was taken away by Russian agents during dinner.
