TEHRAN, Iran – The official one-week campaign has begun for runoff elections for some seats in Iran's parliament.
The 65 seats up for grabs were not decided in the first round in March. Voting is set for May 4.
Conservative opponents of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have already won majority of 220 seats of the new parliament in the first round. The house has totally 290 sets.
Parvin Ahmadinejad, the president's younger sister, failed to win a seat in the first round in their hometown.
In the capital, Tehran, 50 candidates are running for 25 seats.
The parliament has no direct control over major policy matters like Iran's nuclear program, but it can influence the run-up to the election of a successor to Ahmadinejad next year.
