A Romanian court has ruled that the son of a former Moldovan president be banned from leaving Bucharest during an investigation into whether he took bribes.

The court ruled Wednesday that Sergiu Lucinschi, a businessman who also has Romanian citizenship, shouldn't leave the capital for two months. He was detained Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Lucinschi, a police officer in an anti-crime department, and a lawyer who is the son-in-law of former Romanian President Traian Basescu, are suspected of demanding 2 million euros ($2.1 million) from a businessman from December to March in exchange for promising to stop an investigation into the businessman. The police officer was arrested Wednesday.

Lucinschi is the youngest son of Petru Lucinschi, Moldova's president from 1997 to 2001.
