Bangladeshi authorities said Wednesday that 10 people are charged in the deadly house fire that killed a mother and her three daughters after one of the girls refused a marriage proposal.

The Dhaka Tribune reported that the women, who lived in the town of Tangai, were burned alive Tuesday night. Jahangir Hossain, 25, who for two months had been proposing to one of the daughters, named Miriam, 13, was named by police as the prime suspect.

"We found the mother and her daughters burnt alive in a room. We could not save them," Raseh Mallick, a neighbor told The Daily Star.

Four days earlier, the suspect was allegedly seen beating the girl and her mom.
