WARSAW, Poland – A serial pedophile killer's release from prison is causing an uproar in Poland.
The Polish media are urging parents to watch over their children, opposition leaders are accusing the state of failing to ensure security while justice authorities are insisting the situation is under control.
The man, identified only as Mariusz T., under Poland's privacy regulations, left prison Tuesday night after serving his sentence and was taken to an unknown location under police escort.
A much-criticized delay in implementing regulations on dangerous criminals has postponed court deliberations on whether the man should be placed in a center to undergo treatment. A decision is still awaited.
The man's death sentence for raping and killing four boys in 1988 was commuted to 25 years under an amnesty.
