The son of a U.S. district court judge has been found guilty of killing his wife at their home in a wealthy suburb in Puerto Rico.

Pablo Casellas Toro also was found guilty of weapons offenses and destroying evidence. His wife Carmen Paredes was shot and killed in July 2012.

Defense attorney Harry Padilla says he plans to appeal Wednesday's verdict against the insurance broker. Casellas had said he was innocent and that he came home to find his wife dead and an unknown man escaping over a fence.

Casellas is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 6.

He is the son of U.S. District Court Judge Salvador Casellas, a former Puerto Rico treasury secretary.
