Albanian university students have thrown eggs at a car carrying Prime Minister Edi Rama, to protest against recent legislation that they say favors private over state-run universities.

Police said they were questioning eight students in connection with Monday's incident at the University of Tirana.

The attack took place as Rama left the university in his car after a meeting in one of the faculties with small businessmen.

Students object to a law adopted two months ago that will increase modest tuition fees at state universities, while at the same time providing partial funding for private universities with taxpayer money.

Rama declined to comment on the incident.
