PARIS – A French prosecutor says two suspects with links to the killer of two French police officials will be tried on terrorism charges connected to the murders.

The prosecutor announced the charges Saturday against Charaf-Din Aberouz and Saad Rajraji, who will remain in detention.

The prosecutor had until Saturday morning to release the two or pursue charges.

Both individuals had been convicted in 2013 of links with a terrorist organization.

Officer Jean-Baptiste Salvaing and police administrator Jessica Schneider were knifed to death in their home on Monday by 25-year-old Larossi Abballa, who was later killed by a police intervention unit.

Abballa had been convicted in 2013 of a role in a jihadi network on the Pakistan-Afghan border and claimed allegiance to the Islamic State group.
