Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has fired his justice minister, who made comments alleging Germans may be experimenting on Polish embryos from in vitro fertilization procedures.

Jaroslaw Gowin is the second Cabinet minister to be dismissed by Tusk this month. He is to be replaced by former interior minister Marek Biernacki, a lawyer.

Gowin is a staunch Catholic who voted against the ruling party's draft law guaranteeing rights for same-sex couples. He also opposes in vitro fertilization.

Earlier this month, he said that, "German scientists are probably importing embryos from Poland and conducting experiments on them."

Tusk said he fired Gowin because he was creating many embarrassing situations for the government. The prime minister also recently replaced the treasury minister for allegedly lax oversight of state companies.
