NASSAU, Bahamas – Bahamian searchers recovered the body of a man who was one of two people aboard a small plane that crashed Tuesday into the Atlantic Ocean off the most populated island in the Bahamas.
The Royal Bahamas Defense Force found the dead man floating amid wreckage of a twin-engine Beech 18 aircraft off New Providence island. They also found luggage containing women's clothes, but were still searching for signs of the second person.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and Bahamian officials were searching for the missing passenger in the central Bahamas, where a passing cold front caused strong winds.
Investigators had not identified the people of the plane.
Bahamian civil aviation official Hubert Adderley said the aircraft was headed to Nassau's Lynden Pindling International Airport from Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida when it vanished.
The plane was registered with an air shipping company based in Florida, Adderley said.
