Officials say gunmen have killed two government employees and two road construction workers in separate attacks in Iraq.

Police officials say the first attack took place Wednesday morning in eastern Baghdad, when gunmen fatally shot two employees working in the Industry Ministry.

Later in the day, gunmen killed two laborers working on a road construction site near the city of Mosul, about 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad.

Medics in nearby hospitals confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to the media.

Violence has ebbed in Iraq, but insurgent attacks are still frequent.
