New Delhi police say they have suspended three officers after a video showed them beating a man with sticks and taking money from his wallet.

The video was posted on the Facebook page of India's Aam Admi, or Common Man's, party, which runs the government in the Indian capital. The party said a vigilante shot the footage outside the Red Fort, a popular tourist spot, earlier this month.

The police acknowledged Friday the men shown in the footage were Delhi police and that they had been suspended.

The Aam Admi Party leader, Arvind Kejriwal, has his eye on control over the city's police, which now reports to the federal government. He has accused the force of targeting the poor for petty offenses, but refusing to combat serious crime.
