Two metro trains carrying passengers crashed in Mexico City on Monday, leaving at least 12 people injured, authorities said.

City Fire Chief Raul Esquivel told the Televisa network there were no deaths from the accident, adding that 40 firefighters were on the scene.

The Mexico City Metro System said via its Twitter account that three of the 12 injured were hospitalized.

The accident occurred in the Oceania station on Line 5 near the city's international airport. The Mexico City metro has 12 lines.

Media reports showed two cars crashed together and said that one train ran into another that had stopped at the platform.
