SKOPJE, Macedonia – Macedonian police say an explosion has wounded five Roma children in a town west of the capital and investigators haven't yet identified the type of device.
Two 14-year-old girls sustained serious limb and chest injuries in Sunday's blast and were rushed to a hospital in Skopje. Hospital officials said they are in stable condition after surgery. Three other children were slightly injured and have been discharged from Tetovo's hospital.
Tetovo, about 55 kilometers (35 miles) west of Skopje, is a town at the heart of Macedonia's Albanian minority. It wasn't immediately clear if the explosion could have been caused by unexploded ordnance from the Macedonian-Albanian civil war in 2000-1. Results from tests on explosive fragments are expected Monday.
