MONROVIA, Liberia – A Liberian editor jailed after reporting the results of an official graft investigation says he is confident his legal troubles will soon be resolved.
Rodney Sieh, publisher and editor of the independent newspaper FrontPageAfrica, was jailed in August after failing to pay $1.5 million in damages awarded to former Agriculture Minister Chris Toe. In 2010, Sieh's newspaper published allegations from the country's anti-corruption watchdog that the ministry could not account for millions of dollars.
Sieh's imprisonment drew international outcry, with rights groups calling for reforms to the country's libel laws. He was granted "compassionate release" last month.
On Sunday, Sieh told The Associated Press that a settlement of the case would be announced Wednesday. His lawyers declined to disclose the terms, and Toe's lawyers could not be reached for comment.
