CHISINAU, Moldova – The leaders of Ukraine, Poland and Moldova have met over concerns about Russian influence in separatist eastern Ukraine and fears that Russia may seek to meddle in Moldova's general election.
The three countries' leaders — Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti — said Thursday that both Ukraine and Moldova should continue their pro-European paths.
Their meeting in Chisinau was a boost to Moldova's pro-Western parties, which hope to win the Nov. 30 election as they face off against parties that favor closer ties to Moscow. Polls show the pro-European parties slightly ahead.
The three leaders also discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine, where there are fears that hostilities between the government and the pro-Russian rebels may flare anew.
