WARSAW, Poland – An IT company that wrote the vote counting program for Poland's local elections says the state electoral office should share the blame for delays in the results of last month's balloting.
Maciej Cetler, the deputy chief of the Nabino company, said Friday that full results from the Nov. 16 local elections were available in the system three days later but due to a hardware malfunction they could not be printed and announced.
The results of the vote for local authorities were announced Nov. 22, after a count by hand.
Cetler said the lack of printouts was Nabino's fault, but he blamed the state electoral office for commissioning the program too late and for ignoring Nabino's requests to have the hardware upgraded.
There was no immediate comment from the electoral office.
