Israel's Shin Bet security service says a 37-year-old Palestinian man has confessed to intentionally ramming his car into a group of Israeli Jews in a deadly car attack last week.

The Shin Bet said Tuesday that the man, Khaled Kutina, admitted he was driving along a main highway looking for Jews to harm when he saw people standing along the side of the road.

One man was killed and a woman seriously injured in the assault.

The Shin Bet says Kutina, a resident of east Jerusalem, tried to say he was mentally ill during the investigation before confessing. Kutina remains held by authorities.

Kutina's lawyer, Nasser Massis, refused to comment the Shin Bet report.

Israel has seen a number of similar hit and run attacks in Jerusalem in recent months.
