Israeli police say forces dismantled a tent encampment set up by Palestinian activists during President Barack Obama's visit last week.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says 200 officers removed some 40 demonstrators in an overnight operation in an area of the West Bank just east of Jerusalem known as E-1.

Israel plans to build a settlement in E-1. Palestinians say construction there will hinder movement between east Jerusalem and the West Bank, land they want for a future state along with the Gaza Strip.

Rosenfeld says three protesters were arrested in the early Sunday raid. He says no injuries were reported.

The encampment is the latest in several attempts by activists to build makeshift outposts. The protesters say their aim is to draw attention to Israel's control of the disputed territory.
