The Israeli military says sniper fire from the Gaza Strip has seriously wounded a laborer while he was working on the border fence with the coastal area.

The military says the Israeli man was doing maintenance work on the fence when he was stuck by a bullet along the northern part of the Gaza border.

Tuesday's attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents. An Israeli policeman was stabbed Monday outside a West Bank settlement.

On Sunday, a pipe bomb believed planted by Palestinian militants exploded on a bus in central Israel. It was the most serious attack inside Israel in more than a year.

After years of relative quiet, there has been a recent uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence. Israeli officials, tough, don't believe the incidents are connected.
