The head of Interpol in Uganda says a most-wanted Ugandan extremist who is accused of committing atrocities in Uganda and Congo has been extradited to Uganda.

Asan Kasingye said rebel leader Jamil Mukulu, who heads the Congo-based armed group Allied Democratic Forces was flown to Uganda from Tanzania on Friday.

He said it was still unclear when Mukulu would appear in court. Mukulu is accused of multiple accounts of murder stemming from his alleged role as the leader of the Islamic militant group which is attacking civilians in eastern Congo.

Mukulu was arrested in the Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam earlier this year and lost his bid to avoid extradition to Uganda, where he was born and grew up.
