Iraqi officials say gunmen in Baghdad have killed a traffic police officer and a policeman.

One police official says gunmen with pistols fitted with silencers broke into the southwestern Baghdad home of Col. Raad Numan early on Tuesday and shot him dead. Numan was in charge of traffic police supplies.

Another official says gunmen in a speeding car opened fire on a police patrol in eastern Baghdad around noon, killing one policeman and wounding another.

Health officials in nearby hospitals confirmed the causalities. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

A wave of assaults across Iraq has killed 105 people this week.
