Relatives of those killed in Israel’s worst-ever wildfire disrupted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s memorial speech Wednesday, shouting for the removal of his interior minister.

A few dozen hecklers surged at Netanyahu as he was briefly sheltered by bodyguards, while others stormed out of the event, Reuters reports.  The memorial was held at Beit Oren, a kibbutz near the center of the Carmel forest fire in which 44 people died.

According to Reuters, Interior Minister Eli Yishai, the official responsible for Israel’s fire services who was the focus of public dissent from the blaze, left the hall after the outbursts.

“My heart is with you,” Netanyahu said as he resumed his speech. “I understand the pain.”
