Lebanon's state news agency and a military official say gunmen have crossed the border from Syria and captured a Lebanese soldier from a border town.

The official said soldier Kamal al-Hujairi was captured Wednesday while visiting his parents' farm on the outskirts of the town of Arsal. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with military regulations.

It was the second such capture since Aug. 2, when Islamic militants crossed into Lebanon and captured more than 20 soldiers and police in the worst spillover of Syria's civil war.

The Islamic State group has beheaded two of the soldiers since then. Jihadist fighters are demanding the release of detainees held in Lebanon in return for the troops.

The state-run National News Agency says the militants also took several cows.
