BOGOTA, Colombia – Colombian police say a gunman opened fire on a labor leader in Cali and killed the man's brother and wounded two other people, including a 4-year-old girl.
National police director Oscar Naranjo says the 21-year-old gunman was captured by the union leader's bodyguards and is being questioned.
Cali police chief Fabio Castaneda says union leader Adolfo Devia escaped the attack Wednesday night uninjured. Devia is vice president of the municipal employees union.
Police say his 26-year-old brother, Jonathan, died of a gunshot to the head. Castaneda says neither of the two wounded are in serious condition.
Colombia is a dangerous country for union organizers. The National Union School says seven trade unionists have been killed in Colombia this year. It says 30 were killed last year.
