Grenada's minister of tourism, civil aviation and culture has resigned in a move that is expected to raise tensions within the prime minister's discordant government.

Peter David says he decided to step down Monday after the information minister refused to retract public comments made last week accusing David and other party colleagues of plotting to remove Prime Minister Tillman Thomas as leader.

David says there is no truth to Information Minister Glen Noel's charge.

David says Noel's comments appear to have been made with the approval of the prime minister and Finance Minister Nazim Burke. He says their silence on the matter made his position on the Cabinet untenable.

Opposition leader Keith Mitchell plans to seek a parliamentary vote of no confidence at the next sitting of the lower House.
