LONDON – A German lawmaker has asked British spy agencies to disclose any files they hold on him following allegations by NSA leaker Edward Snowden that Britain's embassy in Berlin was used as a secret listening post.
Hans-Christian Stroebele, a Green Party lawmaker and member of the parliamentary committee that oversees German intelligence, said Tuesday that Snowden's claims that Britain operated a spy station from the roof of its Berlin embassy lead him to believe he may have been spied upon.
Stroebele met Snowden in Moscow this month and released a letter from the leaker calling for help to persuade the U.S. government to drop charges against him.
Stroebele also claims that Britain could have violated EU laws by helping transmit to intelligence from Germany to the U.S.
