George Zimmerman's Injuries Detailed
Report: Medical report shows George Zimmerman was treated for a broken nose and cuts.
MIAMI – Court records revealed George Zimmerman's injuries the night of the Trayvon Martin shooting included a pair of black eyes, a nose fracture and two cuts to the back of his head.
ABC News reports the medical records were part of evidence released Tuesday that prosecutors have in the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman. He has entered a plea of not guilty and claims self-defense in the Feb. 26 shooting.
The Miami Herald also reported that Zimmerman takes Temazepam, an insomnia medication, and Adderall — which is prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or narcolepsy — "medications that can cause side effects such as agitation and mood swings, but in fewer than 10 percent of patients."
The three-page medical report also stated that Zimmerman complained of nausea and stress, but declined to go to the hospital that evening.
Zimmerman was treated Feb. 27 at Altamonte Family Practice. A phone call made Tuesday evening to the practice rang unanswered.
The medical records were part of 67 compact discs turned over to Zimmerman's Mark O’Mara Monday as evidence. Now part of the law, the prosecution must allow the media access to evidence, but State Attorney Angela Corey’s office said it needs time to review the information and black out sensitive information.
"The records could become a pivotal element in the defense, which contends the killing was a justifiable homicide," The Miami Herald stated. "If Zimmerman can demonstrate that he was in reasonable fear for his life, a judge could toss out the case before it reaches a jury."
A message left Tuesday evening with Zimmerman's attorney was not immediately returned.
Some of the injuries were previously reported by The Associated Press based on video of Zimmerman at a jail sally port.
No trial date has been set.
