George Zimmerman Expands Career Options, First Tries Painting And Now ... Boxing

George Zimmerman is stepping up his defense once again, but this time it will be in the boxing ring and not the courtroom.

The former Florida neighborhood watchman has agreed to enter a celebrity boxing match, but so far no one has stepped up to take the first punch.

“It was my idea,” Zimmerman told Radar Online of the match that will be run by the fight’s promoter, Damon Feldman.

The man acquitted of murdering 17-year old Trayvon Martin in 2012 said that boxing was hobby for him "prior to the incident" and used the blood sport to manage his ever-fluctuating weight.

“Prior to the incident I was actually going to the gym for weight loss and doing boxing-type training for weight loss ... A mutual friend put me in contact with Damon and provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight loss goals and also be able to help a charity out,” he said.

Zimmerman did not reveal if he would be making any money from the event, but did say that some of the proceeds from bout would go to charity.

“I’d love to tell you [the charity] but unfortunately there’s so much animosity still from people out there, that if I name the charity now they would get bombarded with negativity, so I’d rather not,” he said. “I’ll leave it up to them to say if they want it to be publicized or not. But I will tell you that it’s an animal rescue.”

Zimmerman has kept busy since his acquittal last summer.

Besides the boxing match announcement, he has racked up a series of speeding offenses and been arrested due to altercations with his ex-wife and current girlfriend — including domestic violence, felony aggravated assault and an alleged assault on his father-in-law.

Besides his rap sheet, Zimmerman has also made forays into the art world, selling two paintings on eBay — one titled "Angie" depicting northeast Florida state attorney Angela Corey and another featuring an American flag, which sold for $100,099.99.
