A French official says an unidentified driver has tried to ram a car through a gate of the presidential palace.

French President Francois Hollande's office isn't commenting on the incident at the Elysee Palace on Thursday.

The official says the driver was stopped, and no one was hurt in the incident. The official is not authorized to be publicly named because of government policy. An investigation is under way.

No damage was visible on the gate, which faces the famed Champs-Elysees avenue. It is not the entrance usually used for presidential visitors.

A tow truck was seen carrying away a car past the Elysee soon afterward.
