LA PAZ, Bolivia – A judge has ordered jail for the retired police general who reorganized Bolivia's counter-narcotics force after President Evo Morales expelled U.S. drug agents.
Former police chief Oscar Nina is being investigated for illicit enrichment and drug trafficking ties and prosecutor Ana Luisa Heredia says that a judge in the eastern city of Santa Cruz has ordered him held at Palmasola prison.
She tells old reporters that Nina had provided favors to foreign drug traffickers and acquired at least $3 million holdings unsubstantiated by his salary.
Interior Minister Hugo Moldiz said Wednesday there are "serious suspicions" that Nina and his family had links to drug trafficking.
