Ferrari is auctioning a race car to raise money for victims of the earthquakes that have rocked its northern Italian birthplace, Emilia-Romagna.

The 599XX Evo has a commercial value of €1.3 million. The car boasts the best in Ferrari technology — and can only be driven on a track, not the open road.

The online auction next week, at www.ferraristore.com , also will feature Formula 1 memorabilia, including helmets donated by drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

Monday's 5.8-magnitude quake was only about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Ferrari's Maranello headquarters, and damage from the temblor has closed one of Ferrari's suppliers. Ferrari has helped displaced workers find temporary work at other plants and is moving some of the damaged foundry's equipment to its headquarters to continue production.
