GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – A mysterious explosion has targeted the French cultural center in the Gaza Strip for the second time in two months.
The blast late Friday night caused a loud explosion that shook parts of Gaza City. It charred the southern wall of the building, and a security guard was lightly hurt by shattered glass.
The cultural center is one of the few remaining Western diplomatic outposts in Gaza, which is controlled by the Islamic militant group Hamas. It offers French lessons, some consular services and is one of the only places in conservative Gaza that allows unmarried males and females to mix. It has been closed since the earlier Oct. 7 blast.
Hamas said it would investigate. It has made no arrests in the first explosion.
