Dual suicide bombings in Chad village near Lake Chad kill at least 3, injure 14 others

DAKAR, Senegal – Chad officials say two suicide bombings in Bouboua village near Lake Chad have killed at least three people and injured 14.

Local Chadian official Dimouya Souapebe said Sunday that witnesses say the two suicide bombers were women. He said one of the 14 wounded was flown by helicopter to Ndjamena, the capital, for treatment.

Chad's police spokesman Paul Manga said the first explosion went off near a public water tap and the second near a mill, both public gathering spots in the village near Lake Chad toward the border with Nigeria.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is similar to others in the area by Nigeria's Islamic extremist group Boko Haram.

Five coordinated suicide bombings near Lake Chad in October killed at least 36 people.
