GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba – A defendant in the Sept. 11 war crimes case at Guantanamo has made an angry outburst at a court hearing on the U.S. base in Cuba.
Walid bin Attash stood up to complain about searches of his cell while he and the four other defendants are in court. Bin Attash had to be warned by the military judge to sit down and stop talking or face removal from the courtroom. He sat after being calmed by his attorneys.
Attorney Cheryl Bormann said guards had improperly taken privileged legal documents from bin Attash, a native of Yemen who accused of aiding the Sept. 11 attacks.
The chief prosecutor said authorities are investigating the incident. Thursday's outburst occurred on the final day of a four-day pretrial motions hearing in the case.
