BEIJING – China's ruling Communist Party says it has expelled a senior official and stripped him of all his titles.
The fall of Li Chuncheng, formerly deputy party chief for Sichuan province, is widely believed to be connected to a plan to oust his political associate, former highly influential Politburo member Zhou Yongkang.
The party's disciplinary arm said Tuesday in a statement that Li was "degenerate" and he and his relatives used his position to seek benefits for others and take in "huge amounts" of bribes.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection says Li also engaged in "superstitious" activities that caused huge financial loss to the country. The statement did not provide details but said Li's case has been handed to the judicial system.
