Canadian tourist in Nepal arrested on child sex abuse charges

Police in Nepal say a Canadian tourist has been arrested on charges that he lured a 9-year-old boy to his hotel room and had sex with him.

Police official Pushpa Ranjit said Saturday that the suspect was ordered detained by the Lalitpur District Court this week until the charges can be further investigated.

Officials were not giving others details on the case because it involves a minor.

Police identified the suspect as Ernest Fenwich MacIntosh. Canadian news reports says he is from Nova Scotia and has 17 child sex offense convictions against him.

If convicted in Nepal, he could face up to 10 years in jail.
