RIO DE JANEIRO – Brazil's federal police are searching the homes of the speaker of the nation's lower house of congress in connection to corruption charges he faces.
Police entered the official residence of Dep. Eduardo Cunha in the capital Brasilia early Tuesday and also searched residences he has in Rio de Janeiro.
Cunha is at the center of a political storm in Brazil. He's the authority who allowed impeachment proceedings to open in congress against President Dilma Rousseff.
Cunha has already been charged by federal prosecutors for alleging receiving at least $5 million in bribes in connection with a sprawling corruption scandal at state-run oil company Petrobras.
Cunha says he's innocent — and that the millions investigators found in Swiss bank accounts was obtained through business dealings.
