MADRID – Blas Pinar, a Spanish far-right politician who voiced support for Gen. Francisco Franco's military dictatorship after the introduction of democracy and was elected to the Spanish Parliament under the slogan "God, country and justice," has died. He was 95.
His publishing company Fuerza Nueva Editorial said Pinar died at home in Madrid on Tuesday after a recent bout of ill health. It provided no further details.
The son of a soldier who fought with Franco in Spain's 1936-1939 civil war, Pinar became an official in Franco's regime in 1971. After Franco's 1975 death, Pinar set up the Fuerza Nueva party and won a seat in parliament in 1979.
He lost the seat three years later, and since then none of Spain's far-right parties has won a seat in parliament.
