Bangladesh arrests 4 men, says they planned acts of sabotage

DHAKA, Bangladesh – Security officials in Bangladesh's capital say they have arrested a leader and three members of a banned radical group who were planning to commit sabotage.

The Jumatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh had waged a violent campaign demanding Shariah law and created a large support network before being banned in 2005.

Mufti Mahmud Khan, a spokesman for the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion, said Thursday that JMB members who are on bail or outside jail are trying to regroup.

Khan said the group's current leader, Abdul Baten, and an associate were arrested at a bus station and information from them led to a railway station where the other two were arrested.

He said the four were planning to commit sabotage in parts of the country. Little other information was disclosed about them.
