Ghana's judicial service says seven high court judges have been suspended following corruption allegations by a journalist.

In a statement released Monday, the Judicial Council said the decision was made following the judges' "stated misbehavior."

The seven high court judges were among those implicated by an investigative journalist who filmed various officials extorting money from litigants.

The investigative film said the judges were receiving bribes to dismiss cases.

Judicial officials say they are investigating whether others collaborated with the suspended judges and should also face disciplinary action.

Anti-corruption activists have criticized Ghana's judiciary for years and have said that the journalist's investigation vindicates their claims.
