South Africa's government says five high-ranking officials have been suspended after a chartered plane carrying about 200 guests from India to a lavish family wedding was allowed to land at a South African air force base.

Justice Minister Jeff Radebe said Friday that four of the officials belong to the police and the military. A fifth official, the head of state protocol, was suspended a day earlier. The scandal has ignited accusations that security laws were breached.

The jet landed Tuesday at Waterkloof Air Force Base, allegedly bypassing customs procedures and angering many South Africans who see the scandal as a case of cronyism linking big business and government.
