An official says 33 people are believed to be dead after a passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine near a Malaysian highland resort.

Fire department official Azizan Ismail says 16 people survived the accident Wednesday in Malaysia's central Genting Highlands area.

He says the bus fell about 60 meters (200 feet) into a ravine while traveling downhill.

He had no immediate details about the identities of the passengers on the bus, but most were believed to be Malaysians.
