Police say three men believed to be Chinese nationals were shot and arrested after allegedly trying to rob a gun shop in Bangkok in a brazen daytime attack.

Police Col. Suriya Jamningchoke said the men, who were part of a gang of four, entered the shop Friday morning near Bangkok's Chinatown armed with BB guns and knives.

The shop owner shot at the men in self-defense after they attacked him and his assistant with the knives. One of the men escaped but was later tracked down and arrested, Suriya said.

Suriya said the men spoke Chinese and no Thai and were believed to be Chinese nationals.

The attempted robbery occurred in a neighborhood near Chinatown that has dozens of shops selling guns.
