Italian authorities say two single-seat aerobatic planes collided in the sky near Italy's Adriatic shore and crashed into the sea, killing one pilot and injuring the other.

Teramo's fire department said that one plane crashed just offshore near Tortoreto, a town in central Italy, and that the pilot was quickly rescued and taken to a hospital, where his injuries were being evaluated. Fire officials said the other pilot was found dead under the fuselage of his plane about a mile offshore.

The cause of Sunday's collision was under investigation. Sky TG24 TV showed video of one plane curving down into the other, then both plummeting toward water as beachgoers watched.
