Woman Allegedly Fakes Son's Death, Her Own Death to Avoid Foreclosure

Facing a mortgage payment she couldn’t afford, a Massachusetts woman allegedly faked the death of her son serving in the military, and eventually faked her own death, to avoid foreclosure.

Donna Larson, 52, was indicted Friday on charges of attempted larceny and perjury, MyFoxBoston.com reports. In 2006, she could no longer make mortgage payments on her West Bridgewater home, so she falsely reported to her mortgage company her son serving in the military been killed, claiming she would use his life insurance policy to pay off the debt, prosecutors allege.

The mortgage company then granted her an extension on payment.

When her home was finally foreclosed on in 2007, Larson allegedly bought more time by claiming that her attorney’s relative had died and wasn’t able make court appearances.

Then, facing eviction in 2008, Larson allegedly elicited the help of relative to call the lender's attorney and report Larson as deceased. The mortgage company bought the false report and again granted the family additional extensions on the eviction, authorities say.

Larson is scheduled to be arraigned on July 12.
