{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The mother of a 2-year-old boy who was found buried in a garbage bag under a New Orleans-area bridge has turned herself in to police.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement that 21-year-old Gabrielle Whittington surrendered Sunday. Deputies had issued second-degree murder warrants Friday for both Whittington and 21-year-old Onterio Thompson, who were the parents of Timothy Thompson IV.
The boy's decomposed body was found July 6 in a bag on the east bank of the Mississippi River levee near the Huey P. Long Bridge.

Pathologists later determined that the boy's death was a homicide.
Onterio Thompson is currently in custody on unrelated charges. It's unclear whether they have attorneys.
