Missouri Brother, Sister Die in Sledding Accident
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Two children from a Missouri town died from cold temperatures after their sled fell through an ice-covered pond on Friday and left them trapped in frigid waters for more than an hour, Reuters reports.
Grace Cody, 9, of Southwest City, was pronounced dead at a local hospital that night after spending more than five hours in the icy water before being found by volunteer firefighters.
Her brother, Joseph Cody, 12, was pulled from the pond after an hour, but died Saturday night after being transferred to a Kansas City hospital, according to Reuters.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Residents of the 850-person farming town planned a candlelight vigil on Sunday evening in memory of the brother and sister.
"Things like this just don't happen here," said William J. Goodwin, owner of Southwest City’s Ozark Funeral Home, where the Codys’ funeral arrangements are pending.
