Lawyer: New Jersey cop to plead not guilty in wrong-way crash that killed 2

A lawyer says a New Jersey police officer will plead not guilty to charges in a wrong-way crash in New York that killed a fellow officer and a friend.

Linden Police Officer Pedro Abad is scheduled to appear in court in Staten Island on Monday.

Attorney Mario Galluci tells NJ.com (http://bit.ly/1gqnlaa ) he expects the 27-year-old will be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.

Galluci says Abad uses a wheelchair because of leg injuries, has a disabled arm and a speech impediment due to "diminished mental capacity."

Authorities say Abad had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit when he drove the wrong way and crashed into a tractor-trailer in March.

Linden officer Frank Viggiano and resident Joseph Rodriguez were killed. Another officer, Patrik Kudlac, was critically injured.
