How to Help Those Affected by Severe Storms in the South

Across the Midwest and South, communities were ravaged by the deadliest tornadoes in history. Volunteers have been pitching in as the death toll from Wednesday's storms keeps rising.

Here is how you can help:

The Red Cross is providing food and shelter to the thousands of people affected by the storms, as well as distributing relief supplies and providing emotional support and basic health services to the disaster survivors. Donate or volunteer by going to The Red Cross website or call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767).

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services is also providing necessities and support to the region. You can donate by going to The Salvation Army's website or call call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or Text "GIVE" to 80888 to make a $10 donation.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is fanning out to assist communities hit by the severe weather. To volunteer through FEMA call 205-248-5045.

Alabama's Emergency Relief Fund is set up to provide assistance to individuals and organizations with recovery costs that are a direct result of a disaster or emergency. To help go to www.servealabama.gov. 

Mississippi Disaster Recovery Fund serves as the state’s central clearinghouse for corporations, organizations, and individuals to make financial donations to the thousands of Mississippians who are recovering from the devastation of the storms oo April 24, 2010, Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters.
